    Dear Prospective Parents,

At Madera Elementary School's Civic Leadership Academy, it is our mission to meet all students where they are using best instructional practices to cultivate academic and social emotional growth and success. As a Civics Leadership Academy our focus is on developing thoughtful citizens and empowering young leaders to become active members in their school, community, and government. Every student is taught the skills needed to become active and responsible citizens in a democracy. Our nonpartisan approach uses the six practices for Civic Leadership: Classroom Instruction, Current Events, Service Learning, Extracurricular Activities, School Governance and Simulations of the Democratic Process. Our teachers receive special training in Civic Leadership Instruction. We provide a learning community where achievement is fun and engaging. The Civic Leadership Academy is a Connected Learning Program linked with Sinaloa Middle School and Royal High School.

    Kindergarten Programs

Studies show that children benefit from high quality, full-day Kindergarten programs. The Simi Valley Unified School District offers families throughout the district two full-day Kindergarten options, depending on your child’s age.

Universal Transitional Kindergarten (TK) and traditional Kindergarten classes are taught by credentialed teachers with experience in early-childhood education, in a safe and nurturing environment, on elementary school campuses located throughout the district. All of our Kindergarten programs are free.

Enrollment for the 2023-2024 school year is right around the corner. To determine the right program for your child, please join us for our virtual Kindergarten Information Night events. Because these are virtual events, please read the information below to participate. To learn more about our kindergarten programs, visit us at, or call the Educational Services Department at (805) 306.4500, Extension 4207.

This year, our Information Night events will be conducted virtually on Zoom. You do not need to have a Zoom account to participate, but you do Internet access. You will need to register before the start of the event. Please carefully type the link below into your Internet browser, enter your information and submit. A confirmation email will be immediately sent to you from “Jake Finch.” That email will have a link for the event. Then, at the date and time of the event, use the Zoom link to access the event. Recipient of Civic Learning Award of Merit

Madera Elementary School has earned the California Department of Education Civic Learning Award of Merit for three years in a row! The Civic Learning Award for public schools is co-sponsored by State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson and California Chief Justice Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye. They recognize and value the important role of public schools to prepare students to participate in our democracy, and have a partnership to support civic education in California. The awards are designed to celebrate successful efforts to engage students in civic learning and to identify successful models that can be replicated in other schools.

"When young people discover they can be agents of changes, wonderful things happen. They start to serve in the neighborhoods, learn about public issues, create innovative solutions to tough public challenges and eventually become the voters, community project builders and leaders in our communities and nation. Central to this transformation from spectator to citizen is an understanding of communities and nation. Central to this transformation from spectator to citizen is an understanding of who we are as Americans, our core democratic values, and the roles individuals can play."
